The new Tariff R has changed from one based on the size of your eating area to one based on a matrix of information such as average main meal price, whether you are a licensed premises for alcohol consumption, your seating capacity, and the number of days you are open in the year.
Furthermore, it is a fee which is to be self assessed, and phased in during the next 5 years.
Impact of the new Tariff R
The impact on fees is greater (i) as the period’s progress and (ii) for larger restaurants with higher meal value.
By July 2012, for example, many restaurants will be paying more then 10 times – and in some case 20 times, their current annual fees.
Alternative to renewing with PPCA
SBA Music has finalised Public Performance licenses direct with rights-holders in order to create music programs which are not subject to PPCA licenses for dining areas, restaurants and cafes.

SBA Public Performance License
The associated Public Performance annual fees are based on the size of your eating area (<150sqm; 150 to 300sqm; >300sqm) and will be in line with your previous fees. Your public performance fee will be collected and paid directly on to the rights-holders.
Please Contact SBA’s Customer Service Department on 02 9660 8999 to confirm your fees.
Association Endorsement
Our music program and licensing solutions have been reviewed by Clubs Australia, Australian Hotels Association and Restaurant & Catering Association.
All have endorsed the solutions and are recommending them to members.
